10 vehicles importing cement clandestinely seized

KATHUA, June 30: Commercial Taxes Department seized ten vehicles carrying cement clandestinely from Punjab.
As per official spokesperson, on specific input regarding clandestine import of cement from Punjab, a naka was laid at Haria Chak by Special Investigation Unit of Commercial Taxes Department headed by Anu Malhotra, Additional Commissioner, Arvind Sawhney CTO and other officials.
At around 5.30 am, ten vehicles loaded with cement imported from Punjab in clandestine manner were spotted.
On seeing the sleuths of Commercial Taxes Department, all drivers left the scene abandoning their vehicles.
Toll Authorities and Motor Vehicle Department were informed for necessary action.
Later, all the vehicles were taken into custody and kept at Toll Post Lakhanpur.
Penalty and security of Rs 52,662 was recovered on spot from one vehicle which was unable to move because of some technical snag. Toll authorities also recovered around Rs 48,000 as penalty.
The seized vehicles are kept under the custody of Toll Authorities Lakhanpur for appropriate action under J&K Vat Act, 2005 and Toll Tax Act.
