SRINAGAR, Dec 15: The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the J&K State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) for the development of a 10 MW solar photovoltaic project in the Union Territory, Centre informed the Rajya Sabha today.
Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, in a written reply, said the project is scheduled to be completed within 12 months of the award of work.
Providing details of rooftop solar initiatives, the Minister said that under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a total of 16,212 rooftop solar systems have been installed in J&K as on December 11, 2025.
He added that under the PM-KUSUM scheme, the UT has been allocated 5,000 solar pumps, of which 3,601 had been installed as on November 30, 2025.
Meanwhile, the Minister informed the House that NHPC Limited is implementing four major hydropower projects in J&K with a total installed capacity of 3,014 MW through joint venture companies with JKSPDC.
These include the Ratle (850 MW), Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW) and Kwar (540 MW) projects, all located in Kishtwar district and scheduled for completion between December 2026 and November 2028.
Naik further said that NHPC has three hydropower projects at the planning stage-Uri-I Stage II (240 MW) in Baramulla, Dulhasti Stage II (260 MW) in Kishtwar, and Sawalkot (1,856 MW) in Ramban and Udhampur districts-with a combined planned capacity of 2,356 MW.
