UDHAMPUR, Jan 20: District Police Udhampur foiled two separate attempts of bovine smuggling and rescued 10 bovine animals besides arresting two smugglers.
A police team of Police Station Udhampur stopped a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing Registration number JK14E- 5740 near Birma Bridge Udhampur, which was found illegally transporting bovine animals towards the Kashmir Valley. During checking, four bovine animals were recovered from the vehicle.
Police rescued the animals and arrested driver of the vehicle. Accordingly, FIR No. 21/2026 under Section 223 of BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur. Further investigation is underway.
In another success, a patrolling party of Police Post Battal Ballian intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing Registration No. JK14L 0237 near Factory Chowk, Battal Ballian, Udhampur. During checking, six bovine animals were found loaded in the vehicle without any valid permission.
The accused driver, Mohd Arshad, son of Ghulam Qader, resident of Gangera, Udhampur, was arrested on the spot and all the bovines were rescued.
In this regard, FIR No. 20/2026 under Section 223 of BNS and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Police Station Udhampur.
