Jassowal, (Ludhiana), Apr 25: Hot contender Ajay Yadav snuffed out the spirited challenge of Gurindeer Mann in three sets in the men’s semi-final match of the HTA-AITA Rs 1.5 lakh Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournament at Harvest Tennis Academy here today.
Ajay Yadav won the first set by 6-3. Gurinder Mann bounced back into the game by winning the second set by dropping just one game (6-1). Ajay reorganized his game and clinched the third and final set at 6-4. Ajay Yadav’s opponent in the final will be Jassowal’s Hardeep Singh Sandhu who defeated Deepinder Bains in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. Promising Vineeta Singh from Delhi surprised giant-killer Rajbir Kaur in well-contested three sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the women’s singles semi-final. Vineeta will now cross swords with Samriti for the crown. Samriti overcame Renu Sharma 6-2, 7-6 (7). Results: Men’s Singles (Semi Finals): Ajay Yadav beat Gurinder Mann 6-3, 1-6, 6-4; Hardeep Singh Sandhu beat Deepinder Bains 6-4, 6-1.
Women’s Singles (Semi Finals): Vineeta Singh beat Rajbir Kaur 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; Samriti beat Renu Sharma 6-2, 7-6(7).
