ANANTNAG, May 16: Army said the children of Kapran and Yakarbora middle schools today marched shoulder to shoulder with their soldier friends as they volunteered for a hiking expedition to the higher reaches of Gamdur Gali near Verinag in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
A Defence spokesman said the soldiers, who loved being addressed as ‘Sir’, ‘Bhaijaan’, ‘Dost’ or ‘Uncle’ by the over 50 young boys and girls, were all impressed by the sheer grit, determination and physical and psychological strength that they displayed in undertaking the trek with such zeal and fervour.
“Munching on snacks, singing songs and sharing jokes all the way, the kids had a memorable, mirthful day’s outing which they hoped to have more of in the future as well,” the spokesman added.
