JAMMU, Mar 29: Three day long Sports Tournament organized by IRP-14th Battalion, under Civic Action Programme concluded today at Armed Police Complex (APC), Channi Himmat, here.
Sunil Dutt, SSP Commandant IRP-14th Bn appreciated the efforts of officers/officials for making the tournament a grand success and called this tournament as a major step in giving the exposure and a platform to local teams and channelizing the energy of youth in positive direction.
The schools which participated in the tournament were Govt. Model Hr. Secondary School, Sunjwan, GHSS Channi Himmat, Naveen Shiksha Kendra run by Sawera-NGO, Govt. Girls Middle School Channi Himmat, GHS Chowadhi, Bal Gran Hr. Sec. School for destitute children and Govt. High School Channi Rama.
Different sports events like athletics, kabaddi, cricket, volleyball etc. were simultaneously held amongthe large number of players participated from the different schools in the vicinity of APC Channi Himmat.
At the valediction, Dutt accompanied by the officers/officials of the unit distributed trophies, medals, track suits, school bags and sports kits etc. to the winner and runners-up teams of the tournament.
Speaking on the prize distribution ceremony, Commandant highlighted the importance of sports activities in day to day life.
He appreciated the sportsmanship of the players and appealed the students to take part in sports to keep themselves physically fit besides channelizing energy in positive side.
“The tournament aims at providing an opportunity for students to showcase their skills. It evoked good response and saw enthusiastic participation of youngsters,” said Mr. Dutt.
Theofficers present in the valediction function were SPs Prabh Dayal Sharma, Yogesh Sharma, Paramjeet Singh, DySP’s Joginder Singh Chib, Wajahat Hussain, S. Harvinder Singh and Inspector DK Bhardwaj-RI of the unit.
