Shreya’s twin gold helps J&K to emerge runners-up in Fencing Nationals

JAMMU, Sept 18: Continuing her scintillating performance at International and national levels, ace fencer from J&K Shreya Gupta, a class 9th student of Presentation Convent School, Jammu has again brought laurels to the state by becoming U-17 National Fencing champion for the second consecutive year. In the just concluded 20th sub junior and 15th Cadet National Fencing championships held at Cuttack, Odisha from September 12 to 16, 2018.
Shreya won individual gold medal in Under-17 (Cadet) Sabre event, thus repeating her last year performance. She defeated her opponents in convincingly to lift the title.
In the team U-17 Sabre event, Shreya was also instrumental in winning gold for J&K by covering up lead from down at 35-40 to 45-40 both against Manipur and Maharasthra in semifinal and finals respectively.
Meanwhile, mainly due to Shreya’s efforts, J&K team has clinched U-17 girls runners-up trophy in the championships.
By winning the individual gold medal she has qualified for the upcoming International events like Asian championships and World Cup in 2019. Pertinent to mention here that in July 2018 Shreya has won first ever medal for the state in Commonwealth Fencing Championship which was held at New Castle, England.
