REASI, Apr 16: Mallerkotla Wrestler Rehmat Ali won historic Pouni Dangal title by overpowering Wrestler Shamsher of Akhara Dina Nagar in a tough bout that lasted for 30 minutes in the traditional Mud Akhara at Pouni, here today.
Winner Wrestler Rehmat Ali got a cash prize of Rs 12,000, while runners-up wrestler, Shamsher got Rs 9, 000 from the Dangal Committee.
Rakesh Khajuria (Raju Pehalwan), National Medalist and Treasurer Jammu Kashmir Wrestling Association was the chief guest on the occasion, while Inspector Bukhari SHO Pouni was the guest of honour and RK Maini(Retd Dy Director Department of Education, renowned wrestler and Senior Vice President Jammu Kashmir Wrestling Association was the special guest on the occasion.
The chief guest and the other dignitaries in their addresses encouraged and complimented the organizers for keeping the cultural heritage of Dangals alive which have a positive impact on the psychology of spectators especially youth whose surplus energies can be streamlined through this most ancient sport of wrestling since Vedic times.
While hailing the recent initiative of Khelo India, RK Maini called upon the younger generation to adopt sportsmanship in their career in various disciplines and get benefitted by the various schemes of Sports Department so that more laurels can be brought for the state and country as a whole.
Second main bout was won by Teg Ali of MallerKotla who defeated wrestler Krishan of Delhi.The winner received Rs 9000, while runners-up Krishan of Delhi got Rs 6,000.
Fifty bouts were played in a day-long event among the wrestlers hailing from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Army and Jammu Kashmir Police.
Earlier, welcome address was presented by Ajeet Kesar, Sarpanch, while the vote of thanks ws presented by Captain Ram Lal.
The event was organized under the overall technical supervision of Rakesh Khajuria who also extended financial support to the Organizing Committee for better conduct of the event.
The members of the dangal committee and technical committee, who provided cooperation and coordination in the smooth organization of the event included Babu Ram,Viney Kumar Ashok Solan, Mohinder Singh, Parkash Singh, Ranjeet Singh, Ajert Kesar, Capt Ram Lal, Manoj Kumar, Vikas Gandotra, Nand Gandotra, Parladh Singh, Captain Sher Singh, Mustafa Gulam,Nazir Ahmed and Sanjeev Kumar Sharma.
