JAMMU, Apr 24: Pahelwan Sabha of Kohali (Amritsar) in Punjab lifted “2nd Jhiri Kesari 2017” title by defeating Wrestler Hitesh of Bahadurgarh in Haryana in a very tough bout for the first malli that lasted for 10 minutes at Jhiri, near here.
Dangal was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association in association with Jhiri Dangal Committee under the overall supervision of President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma, Vice-President Ram Paul Sharma and Chairman Jhiri Dangal Committee Deep Raj.
Ex. Minister and MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary was the chief guest on the occasion, who distributed cash prizes among the winners and runner-up Wrestlers.
Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council, Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Ravinder Kumar, SSP Benam Tosh and retired S.P Prithvi Raj Sharma were the guests of honour. Prominent persons who were also present on the occasion were Advocate Sanjit Bavouria, Prem Choudhary, Inderjeet Khajuria, SHO Rajesh Sharma, Sunil Badyal, Virender Sharma and Rajesh Vaid.
In all, 37 bouts were played in the one day long dangal.
The winner of Ist malli Sabha was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 90,000 along with traditional Gurj (Gadda) and Patta by MLA Sukhnandan Choudhary, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ram Paul Sharma and Deep Raj while runners-up Wrestler Hitesh was cash awarded with Rs 60,000 by PR Sharma, Prem Choudhary, Inderjeet Khajuria and Naresh Kumar (Pappu Lakri).
The second main bout was won by Gurpal of Jallandhar who defeated Benia Min of J&K Police of Basantgarh. Winner Gurpal was cash awarded with Rs 60,000, while runners-up Wrestler Benia Min was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 40,000.
A cash prize of Rs 5,100 was given to Parveen Rana of Delhi (Olympian Wrestler) who was declared best Wrestler of the dangal by the organizers.
