National Girl Child Day celebrated

JAMMU, Jan 24:  Various institutions celebrated National Girl Child Day with enthusiasm and fervour, her etoday.
To mark the 25th anniversary of National Commission for Women, J&K State Commission for Women in collaboration with MHAC School today celebrated the National Girl Child Day.
Chairperson J&K State Commission for Women Nayeema Ahmad Mahjoor was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Chairman LMC, MHAC H R Gandhar was the guest of honour.
Nayeema Mahjoor, while speaking on the occasion, threw light on the importance of this day and the need of empowering the girl child by ensuring her equal opportunities of growth and development.  Earlier, chief guest and Principal Sween Puri flagged off a rally of students who carried placards with meaningful messages. The students also raised slogans on National Girl Child Day.
Jan Sanghrash (Social Organisation) celebrated National Girl Child Day at Govt. College for Women Udhampur in collaboration with NSS Units of the college to create awareness among the people about inequalities faced by the girl child in the society and to find out its possible solutions.
On this occasion, Choudhary Lal Singh, Minister for Forest Environment and Ecology was the chief guest.
Dr. Chander Shekhar, Principal of the college presented formal welcome address followed by Saraswati Vandana by students of music department of the college. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students of the college.
In his address Choudhary Lal Singh asserted that we cannot imagine a society without women and it is the social responsibility of every citizen to come forward for protection and upliftment of women folk. Prof. Swarna Bhougal NSS Programme Officer presented vote of thanks.
In order to celebrate the National Girl’s Child day, two consecutive events were organized by the Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, Jammu. The first one was an interactive session at Louis Braille Memorial School for Sightless Girl, Roop Nagar, Jammu. The session began with a welcome note by Mohinder Kumar Badyal, who has been associated with the establishment of the school. This was followed by discussion on various challenges faced by them in their day to day life. Prof. Suman Jamwal, Director Centre for Women studies, along with Dr. Priyanka Katoch and Saranjit Kaur apprised them of various ways by which these problems can be taken care of. The interaction ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Suman Jamwal.
The second event, recitation of poetry by Prof. Rita Jitendra, was organized today at the seminar hall of the Centre for women’s Studies. She recited poems the central themes of which related to girl child. The recitation of poetry was followed by a detail discussion on the status of girl child in society within and outside the region.  The events ended with a vote of thanks which was extended by Prof Suman Jamwal
Indian Army celebrated ‘National Girl Child Day’ at various schools and colleges of Poonch and Rajouri districts today. A total of 1,279 persons to include students, teachers and members of civil society participated in the events with great amount of zeal and enthusiasm.
A variety of activities to include motivational lectures, drawing & essay writing competition, sports competitions, singing & declamation competition and Skit on the theme ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’  were organised at different schools and colleges at Galuthi, Hattaseri, Mangota, Manihal, Manjakote, Dangri, Sandot, Potha, Surankote, Mendher, Magnar, Thanamandi, Saaj, Sangiot, Piragali, DKG, Naili, Keri, Goldh, Thandi Kassi, Palma and Chhatral.
