Manasbal-Watlab mountain biking expedition held

SRINAGAR, July 24: A mountain biking expedition around Wullar Lake from picturesque Manasbal lake to Watlab Sopore was organized yesterday in which around 20 riders from different parts of the Srinagar participated covering 65 kilometers.
Kashmir Adventure Sports and Tourism Promotion Association and Jammu and Kashmir Mountain Biking Association (JKMBA) in collaboration with
the Department of Tourism Kashmir conducted the event to promote adventure sports besides bringing Watlab Sopore on tourism map. The event was also supported by Dhamna Adventure Holidays Unlimited, Hero Cycles local dealership Haji Amir Joo and Sons.
The riders were flagged off at Manasbal Lake by Deputy Director Tourism (Recreation) Ghulam Zargar Jeelani in presence of President Association of Tour Operators of Kashmir (ATOAK).
Director Tourism Kashmir Mahmood A Shah said the department is promoting adventure tourism vigorously.
He said adventure tourism has vast potential in the state especially in Kashmir.
At the flag-off ceremony, Deputy Director Tourism Ghulam Zargar Jeelani said adventure activities are important part of life which should be promoted. He said the department would support activities which would promote adventure tourism.
He said the cycling expedition around Wullar Lake created awareness among riders and the locals about the importance of the lake.
President ATOAK Rauf Tramboo and General Secretary JKMBA Riyaz Wani were present on the occasion.
Later at Watlab Sopore, the participants were given certificates.
Young rider Rafiq Ahmad of Chattabal, Srinagar was declared as the ‘disciplined rider of the year’ and was awarded with UT mountain bike sponsored by Haji Amir Joo and Sons.
