J&K sport climbers win good haul of medals

JAMMU, Dec 23: J&K sport climbers created history for the State by winning 8 medals including one Gold, 4 Silver and 3 Bronze medals in the 22nd National Sport Climbing Championship which concluded at Kanteerava Stadium, Bangalore the other day.
While Arun Deep Singh bagged 3 medals including a Gold medal in Speed climbing, a Silver in Lead climbing and a Bronze in Bouldering in the Sub Junior Boys category, Shivani Charak, last year’s speed climbing champion in Girls category, bagged 3 Silver medals in Lead and Speed climbing and bouldering. Aman Dogra, last year’s Speed Climbing Champion in Boys category, could win a Silver medal only in Speed climbing, this year. Mrityunjay Sharma, another talented climber of J&K added another medal to state’s kitty by winning a bronze medal in Speed climbing in Boys category.
The other J&K climbers also excelled in various categories but somehow remained medal less. Ajay Deep Singh who had raised vision of two medals by clocking the best time in the preliminary round of speed climbing and reaching the final round in Lead climbing by topping the 50 ft high climbing wall in the semi final  could not repeat his performance in the next round and finished medal less.
The state team was sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
On its return from the National Championship today, the team along with the Secretary and Joint Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria called on the Joint Secretary, J&K State Sports Council Shiv Kumar Sharma, who assured them all possible help from the Sports Council for the promotion of the game.
