Four J&K fencers make it to India Camp

JAMMU, Oct 26: Jammu and Kashmir Amateur Fencing Association today honoured the medal winners of 19th Sub-Junior and Cadet under 14 Fencing Championship held at Gawalior (MP) from October 14 to 17, at a function held at M A Stadium here.
Four fencers from the state namely Shriya Gupta, Rudra Pratap Singh, Mayank Sharma and Awantika qualified for India camp, 2018 for participation in international events.
Former Member Parliament Madan Lal Sharma and Chief Patron was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Shiv Kumar Sharma, Joint Secretary, State Sports Council presided over the function.
M J Sharma President apprised that a contingent of 47 fencers comprising boys and girls in two teams under the guidance of instructor Shotu Lal, also Coached by Rachna Jamwal.
The contingent bagged 10 medals and adjudged over all 3rd at the national level amongst the 28 teams of the country.
Budding fencer Shriya Gupta bagged four medals (3gold and one bronze).
On the basis of her stunning performance, she was adjudged best fencer of the tournament.
Sharma in his address spoke about the reminiscence that how this game started from the sera and now our fencers are shining at national and international level for which he appreciated the associated coaches.
Vijay Sharma, Patron in his vote of thanks applauded the performance of the playerS and coaches for this achievement.
