KATHUA, Apr 12: Government Polytechnic College Kathua organized a debate competition in the college campus to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, here today.
The function began with paying homage to the Dr. B.R Ambedkar.
The chief guest of the function was Er Arun Bangotra, Principal of the college who while speaking on the occasion narrated the various facets of Dr Ambedkar and his role in social transformations in India.
The topic for the debate competition was “Philosphy and Contribution of Dr B.R Ambedkar” in which students participated to vie for the top honours.
The speakers expressed the role of Dr Ambedkar in eliminating the social belief of un-touchability for the lower group of people and upliftment of untouchables to enhance their social status by encouraging the education for their socio-economic improvement and welfare of depressed classes.
The speakers also threw light on Dr Ambedkar’s role in drafting the constitution of the independent India and in planning the Indian economy.
Jasbir Singh Choudhary of 6th Semester won the 1st prize, while 2nd prize went to Raj Kumar of 4th Semester and third prize was claimed by Sourav Singh Charak of 2nd Semester.
Munish Kumar a student of 6th semester conducted the proceeding of the programme.
Er Ajay Thapa, Lecturer, Mechanical was the co-ordinator of the programme.
The judges for the competition were Er Sanam Gupta, Upasana Devi and Neeru Devi, Lecturers of the college.
