DB issues notice in PIL on intl cricket stadium at Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 30: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Deewakar Sharma seeking direction to Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association to immediately start the construction of international stadium at Bajalta, Division  Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today issued notice to Secretary, Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, President of BCCI and JKCA with the direction to file status report.
In the PIL, it has been submitted that State of J&K allotted 500 kanals of land in favour of JKCA in the year 2005 at Bajalta and BCCI has sanctioned more than Rs100 crore in favour of JKCA for the construction of international cricket stadium.
“Eleven years have passed but not even a single penny has been released in favour of JKCA due to which an ordinate delay has been caused in starting construction work”, the petitioner said”.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Deewakar Sharma (petitioner), the DB issued notice to Secretary Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, President BCCI and JKCA through its General Secretary with the direction to file status report.
