Chandigarh wins 2nd National Wheelchair Cricket C’ship

CHANDIGARH, Mar 22: Chandigarh, Punjab Wheelchair Cricket team won 2nd National Wheelchair Cricket Champion-
ship by beating Chhattisgarh team by 10 wickets in a one-sided final match at Noida.
In the tournament which started on March 2, 12 teams participated. The tournament was organized by Wheelchair India Cricket Association.
Chandigarh team defeated Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan before reaching into semifinals. In the semifinal, Punjab beat Karnatka by chasing 197 runs in 19.1 overs.
Batting first, Karnatka made 195 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. Punjab replied strongly and achieved the target in 19.1 overs.
In the second semifinal, Chhattisgarh beat Gujarat by 5 wickets. Batting first, Gujarat team was bundled out for 99 runs in 17.4 over. Chhattisgarh scored 100 runs in just 9.2 overs by losing 5 wickets.
In the final, Chandigarh gave strong performance by bundling out Chattisgarh for meagre total of 28 runs in 5.4 overs.
For Punjab, Ranjit Singh who took 8 wickets in 3 overs by giving only 11 runs was not only adjudged as the man of match in final but also bagged awards for best bowler and player of the tournament.
Singh who scored hat-trick in the final, also won the final for Chandigarh single-handedly by making 29 runs in 15 balls. Chandigarh achieved the target in just 2.5 over without losing any wicket.
Meanwhile Chandigarh based NGO, Empower joy supported the Chandigarh team.
