*Rajasthan outplays J&K in opening tie

JAMMU, Jan 20: All India Super Six T20 Cricket Tournament for physically challenged cricketers began at Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground here today.
The tournament was inaugurated by Additional Director General of Police (Headquarters), V K Singh at an impressive, colourful and well attended inaugural ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Singh said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been undertaking various sports activities to hone the skills of talented youth and to host the 3 days cricket tournament for physically challenged is also among such activities. He said that physically challenged sportspersons deserve all support to refine their talent and boost their morale.
Mr. Singh disclosed that six teams from different states of the country namely Rajasthan, Haryana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh are participating in this Tournament,  the final match of which will be played on 23rd of this month.
He thanked participating teams, who came  here from different states to participate in the Tournament and also appreciated the efforts of Armed Zone Jammu, for organising such a tourney in the winter capital and hoped that such activities would continue in future to encourage physically challenged sportspersons.
Speaking on the occasion, Guest of Honour, MD JK Police Housing Corporation, A K Choudhary said that JKP has honour to host the cricket tourney for specially abled cricketers. He said that specially abled persons have performed in every field and it is our responsibility to guide them and provide every assistance to move forward.
Earlier, in his welcome address, IGP Armed, Shafakat Ali Watali said that all the six teams are affiliated to Physically Challenged Cricketers Association of India which has many achievements to its credit.He said that the Association has introduced cricket ball instead of tennis ball unlike other associations.
Among others, the function was attended by IsGP, Yoginder Koul, Surinder Kumar Gupta and SA Mujtaba, DIG Armed, Alok Kumar, AIsGP, Sheikh Junaid Mehmood and Kulbir Singh, Commandants of Armed and IRP Batallions and other police officers. Ravi Chouhan, Founder Secretary Physically Challenged Cricket Association of India, Nitender Singh, Director Cricket Operation PCCI were also present on the occasion.
The organizing Committee of the Tournament includes Dilbag Singh, ADGP Armed as chairman, IGP Shafqat Ali Watali as organizing secretary and Rajesh Gill as Coordinator.
The proceedings of the opening function were conducted by Rajesh Dhar, Working Committee Member JKCA.
Earlier, in the opening match, Rajasthan XI scripted big win against J&K XI.
Batting first, J&K scored 117 runs for the loss of   wickets in the stipulated 20 overs game.  Syed Shah Aziz top scored with 49 runs, while Shahid Iqbal and Jagmohan Singh contributed 15 and 10 runs to the total respectively. From Rajasthan, Jaisa Ram, Azar Mohammad, Raju and Jaswant shared 1 wicket with each.
In reply, Rajasthan XI chased the target in 17.1 overs without losing any wicket, thus won the match by 10 wickets. Opener Choutha Ram and Satyapal Singh played magnificent unbeaten knocks of 47 runs each. Syed Shah Aziz was declared as man of the match.
The opening match was officiated by Saleem-ur- Rehman, Sadiq Hussain Malik and Sandeep Manchanda.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Tamil Nadu will take on West Bengal at 9.30 am and Rjasthan will face Haryana at 1 pm.
