Rs 2 lakh spent by Association to renovate hall, courtesy Council

*Last date for Junior Snooker entries today

JAMMU, Nov 20: The 26th J&K State Billiards and Snooker Championship, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Billiards and Snooker Association (JKBSA) under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council got underway at Billiards Hall, MA Stadium, here today.
On the occasion, Sanjeev Gupta, President of the Association was the chief guest, who inaugurated the Championship in presence of JKBSA members including Jaideep Manocha Vice President, Nikhil Kapahi Junior Vice President, Vishal Abrol Secretary, Sohail Khalid Treasurer, Ishuk Chodhary Organizing Secretary, Ishan Choudhary and Gurjeev Singh.
Satish Gupta Manager Indoor Complex MA Stadium was also present during the inaugural ceremony and engaged Rakesh Sharma as marker for the tourney.
The Championship will be conducted in Sub Junior Snooker and Billiards, Junior Billiards and Snooker, Senior Billiards and Snooker and Open 6 Ball Red Snooker Championship. Tomorrow will be the last date for the entries of Junior Snooker.
In the first clash of the tournament in Sub Junior Snooker, cueist Veer Singh defeated Vansh Gupta by 2-1. In the first frame, Veer Singh registered win by 73-34 points, whereas in the second frame, Vansh Gupta emerged winner by 72-44 points. In the decider frame, Veer Singh continued supremacy and registered win by 43-34 points.
In the second match, Vansh Mahajan outplayed Ojeas Bhan by straight 2-0 frame. In the first frame, Vansh Mahajan registered win by 53-18 points and again won the second frame also by 51-15 points.
Shubham Dogra beat Amritpal Singh by straight 2-0 frames in the third match by 58-36 and 44-30 points, whereas in fourth match of the day, Manav Pathania trounced Parminder Singh by 2-0 frames (57-26 and 55-30).
In the fifth and last match of the day, Saksham Gupta defeated Ayush Gupta by 2-1 frames. In the first frame, Ayush Gupta registered win by 48-37 points, whereas Saksham bounced back and won the second frame by 56-30 points. In the decider frame, Saksham played mind games and registered win by 61-22 points.
Meanwhile, the members of the Association while talking to the Excelsior informed that they have utilized around Rs 2 lakh for the renovation of this Billiards Hall.
“For the past two to three years, we wrote to J&K State Sports Council to release funds for the renovation of the Billiards Hall, but no steps were taken by the Council, which forced us to manage the funds from our resource to get the hall renovated so as to conduct the tournaments”, they added.
They further stated that now the officials in the J&K State Sports Council have assured them to refund the money, which the Association has utilized on the renovation of the Billiards Hall.
