UDHAMPUR, May 15: The Zonal Level Inter-School Athletic Meet of Zone Jib began at Subash Stadium, here today under the patronage of Director General Youth Services and Sports, Rajinder Singh Tara. The event is being held under the guidance of DYSSO Udhampur, Ramesh Chander Mishra and overall supervision of Jyoti Rani, ZPEO Jib. The meet was inaugurated by DYSSO Udhampur as chief guest, while Vikas Dogra, Manager Sports Council Udhampur, was the guest of honour.
A total of 143 girls from 27 Government Schools participated in various athletic events in U/14 and U/17 age groups. In the under-14 category, Manvi Sharma from HS Upper Thanoa won the 100m race, Akshra Devi of HS Kawa secured first in 200m, Gudia Devi of HS Bali won the 400m race and the 600m race was claimed by Gimjan Devi of HS Bali. Reet Sharma from HS Sattani stood first in long jump, Manisha Devi of HS Bali won high jump and Pariyanka Dogra of MS Southan excelled in shot put.
In the under-17 category, Laxami Devi (HS Kawa), Vandana (HS Moud), and Taniya Devi (HS Laddan) won the 100m, 200m, and 400m races respectively. Pariyanka Sharma (HS Upper Thanoa) won the 800m race, Aasiya (HS Jaganoo) won 1500m and Shayida Begam (HS Jaganoo) claimed the 3000m. Taniya Devi also secured victories in long jump and high jump, while Preeti Devi (HS Upper Thanoa) won shot put. All events were officiated by staff from the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
