Wushu ranking trials to begin in Jammu from Nov 2

JAMMU, Oct 28: The Wushu Association of India (WAI) is set to organize the 1st Ranking Tournament-cum-Selection Trials from November 2 to 4 at the Indoor Hall, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. This important event is being conducted in view of the 20th Asian Games 2026, to finalize the country’s elite Wushu squad.
The tournament will feature shortlisted athletes identified during earlier selection trials held at Srinagar and Manipur. The Technical Committee of WAI has also decided to include the first two position holders of the All India Police Games (Sanda division) and gold medallists of the Taolu event to further strengthen India’s prospects for the Asian Games.
The WAI announced that ranking tournaments will be held every two months until June 2026, the deadline for final team entries. The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has been requested to organize a National Wushu Coaching Camp for the top four athletes in both Sanda and Taolu events, while the top two performers will undergo foreign exposure training in China for 60 days starting December 2025.
In the first phase of the selection trials in the Sanda category, 12 players from Jammu & Kashmir successfully secured their positions among the top eight ranked athletes. The Selection Committee and Technical Team of WAI will oversee the event.
