DODA, June 18: Extraordinary all-round performances from the first class cricketers Vimarsh Kaw and Parvez Rasool helped Combine Cricket, Club Bhaderwah to drub Kingfisher Cricket Club, Jammu by 8 wickets to lift the title trophy of the All India 8th Gufran Memorial Cricket Championship at Sports Stadium, here today.
The tournament was organized by Young Star Cricket Club Doda and sponsored by J&K Bank, 10 Rashtriya Rifles and KC Hyundai.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss, Kingfisher Jammu scored a good total of 155 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Rahul Mussa was the top scorer with 47 runs, while Manish Dogra contributed 41 runs to the total and Ajeet Pal Singh chipped in 14 runs. For Combine Bhaderwah, Parvez Rasool and Vimarsh Kaw shared 2 wickets each, while Ram Dayal and Touqeer Malik claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Combine Bhaderwah rode a superb display of batting by Vimarsh Kaw and Parvez Rasool to chase the target in just 15.1 overs by losing 2 wickets in the process, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Vimarsh smashed power-packed 77 runs off just 35 balls, which included 6 fours and 4 sixes, while Parvez hit quick-fire 49 runs off 22 balls with 5 boundaries and 4 sixes. Both the batsmen sent the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt and tore them to all parts of the ground with fluid grace, elegance and utter brilliance. Another first class player Adil Reshi contributed 22 runs to the total. For Kingfisher Jammu, Rohit and Raman claimed one wicket apiece. Vimarsh Kaw was adjudged man of the match, while Yasir Rather was declared man of the series and Noushair Batt as best bowler of the tournament.
The match was officiated by Sanjay Singh and Subhash Mathur as umpires, while Shahid Bashir Pampori acted as the scorer.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Doda, Farooq Ahmed Khan was the chief guest on the valedictory function, while Commanding Officer 10 Rashtriya Rifles, Col Vikram Singh Guleria was the guest of honour. The chief guest and the guest of honour presented a trophy along with a cash prize of rupees one lakh to the winning team, while the runners-up team received a cash prize of rupees 50000 along with a trophy.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were Mohd Arif Rishu, Mohd Ibrahim Wani, Prof Zaheer Abbas Hashmi, Asif Jahan Gattu, Zaffar Ullah Rather, Dr Tariq Masood, Mohd Iqbal Balwan, Mehboob Kraipak, Nisar Ahmed Gattu, Mohd Saleem and Manzoor Ahmed, organizing secretary of the tournament.
