SAMBA, May 4: Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Cricket Club (SSSCC) defeated Garh Mandi A team in the opening match of the Veer Abhimanyu Memorial Night Cricket Tournament, played at Thaloura Mandi playground in Samba, here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Shaheed Sukhdev Singh Club posted 77 runs in the stipulated 12 overs. Sahil Sambyal top-scored with 18 runs off 10 balls, while Shanu Sambyal contributed 16 runs. Chasing the target, Garh Mandi A team managed only 61 runs, falling short by 16 runs.
Sahil Sambyal and Honey Sambyal took two wickets each, playing pivotal roles in their team’s victory. Sahil Sambyal was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
The tournament has drawn participation from 32 teams from various districts. MLA Samba Surjit Singh Slathia inaugurated the tournament and conducted the toss. In his address, he encouraged youth to stay fit through sports and fight the growing menace of drug addiction.
Prominent attendees included former councillor Raj Singh Sambyal, Gautam Singh, Govardhan Singh Kaka, Rajeshwar Singh Bikka, Sumit Singh Sapan, Arun Khajuria, Vishaldev Singh, Abhishek Sambyal, and Manav Singh.
