UT level Junior Wrestling C’ship culminates

JAMMU, Mar 7: Two days long J&K UT Junior/Sub-Junior (Boys & Girls) Wrestling Championship concluded today at Jammu University Wrestling Hall under the banner of Wrestling Association of J&K.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary J&K Sports Council was the chief guest, who gave away the medals to the winner and runners-up wrestlers. He complimented the Wrestling Association of J&K for holding the competition amidst COVID-19 pandemic situation.
She expressed happiness over participation of women wrestlers and said, “It is good beginning that the women wrestlers are fighting in front of male participants and guests.”
President of J&K Olympic Association (JKOA), Prof (Dr) Ashutosh Sharma was the guest of honour who lauded the efforts of Wrestling Association of J&K.
In sub-junior (45 kg), Rahul Kumar, Mohd Khalil and Ankit Choudhary stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively, whereas in 48 kg, top three positions were clinched by Ganesh Singh, Sahil Kumar Gulzar Ali and under 51 kg, Surya Udhay Pratap Singh; Parvez Ahmed and Sahil Kumar remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively besides in 55 kg, Bag Hussain, Rahul Singh and Kaka Din clinched top three positions, whereas in 60 kg, Natter Singh, Bag Hussain and Shamahoon stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and in 65 kg, top three places were clinched by Sunil Kumar, Shabir Ahmed and Khuda Baksh. In 71 kg, Gafoor Ahmed, Udhay Singh and Showkat Ali clinched 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively besides in 80 kg, Mohd. Sadiq, Amarjeet and Fazal Hussain remained 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.
In junior boys (57 kg), three positions were bagged by Harun Choudhary, Muhtaj Mohd and Harshdev Singh, whereas in 61 kg, Keshav Singh, Anil Singh and Bhadir Singh bagged top three positions and in 65 kg, Saleem stood 1st; Mohd Hussain remained 2nd and Abish Verma clinched 3rd place besides in 70 kg, Mohd Gh Sawar, Harshdev Singh and Sahil Ali got 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively while in 74 kg, Gulshan Chib, Mudasir Zaheer and Babu Din secured top three places and in 79 kg, Ashiq Hussain, Muhtaj Ali and Gulzar Ahmed clinched top three places.
In 86 kg, Arjun Sangral, Koushal Manhas and Jacoob Ali stood 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively while in 92 kg, Sahil Sharma stood 1st and Dheeraj Choudhary clinched 2nd places
In women (49 kg), Sanjana Sharma, Mitali Kotwal bagged top two positions, whereas in 53 kg, Shreya Sharma stood 1st and Maithili Kotwal remained 2nd and in 63 kg, Matihili Kotwal, Vishali Devi and Anchal Sharma won top three positions respectively.
Dushyant Sharma-, former international wrestler also gave a brief note of the event. He also appreciated the initiative taken by LG for improving infrastructure and hoped that J&K may also improve in terms of coaches and equipments.
He informed that around 160 wrestlers from Srinagar, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Doda, Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban and Udhampur district took part in this championship.
The bouts were officiated by Om Parkash Sharma, Krishan Singh, Diler Khan, Anil Kumar, Ajay Bharti, Sahil Dagoria, Sunny Sharma and Roshan Sharma.
