‘Under-construction Indoor Complex at Udhampur place for gamblers, drunkards’

UDHAMPUR, Oct 18: The construction work of the Indoor Complex at Udhampur has stopped before eight months and the hall under-construction has converted into a place for gamblers and drunkards, here.
This was informed by Kumar Tarun, president Udhampur Table Tennis Academy while addressing media persons here today.
Mr Tarun said that the construction work on Indoor Complex was inaugurated by the then Sports Minister Taj Mohi-ud-Din way back on November 16, 2013, with an assurance that the Complex will be completed in nine months, adding that two years have passed and the construction work is yet to be completed, which speaks volumes with regard to functioning of J&K State Sports Council.
He further said that the Minister for Sports, Imran Raza Ansari in an interview had promised to construct the Complex within months and had assured of visiting the place, adding that the Minster has yet to visit the Complex to add to miseries of the budding sportspersons.
The members also said that their representative from Udhampur, MoS Finanace, Pawan Gupta has also closed his eyes over the ill fated construction work of the Complex, adding that the Minister is hardly bothered to visit the site and take stock of the construction work.
The members termed it unfortunate that the players have to pay a huge amount of Rs 5,000 per month for practice purposes.
President on behalf of the members of the Academy has appealed the Sports Council and concerned authorities to initiate the construction work and complete the Complex soon.
