JAMMU, Dec 29: Defeating Jammu Blue by a margin of 12-8 in the summit clash, Trikuta Korfball Club lifted the title trophy of the 17th Jammu District Korfball Championship at Playing Field No-1 Gandhi Nagar, here today.
Diksha displayed superb korfball skills to shape Trikuta Club victory, making 5 goals, while Mohit and Ashwani were the other contributors with 3 goals and 2 goals respectively. Irfan Choudhary was the star performer for Jammu Blue, who, though put in best efforts to bring the team out of difficulty, yet failed to catch the opponents score. He made 4 goals, while Divanshu and Felcus shared 2 goals each.
The running District championship trophy was presented to the winners Trikuta club by joint secretary of J&K State sports council JB Singh Bali, who was the chief guest in the final, while Rajiv Chuni was the guest of honour.
The chief guest interacted with players of both the teams, before speaking on the occasion.
Mr Bali laid emphasis on involving youth in sports activities so as to chanalise their energy in a positive way. He said that the state korfball players possess all that is required to blossom at the highest level, adding that the time was ripe that korfball players of the State represent the country at international level.
Prominent among others present in the valedictory function were Tarlok Singh, working president of J&K Korfball Association, who earlier, presented welcome address; Manjit Singh, General Secretary J&K Korfball Association; RK Sharma, treasurer; Deshbandhu, Organising Secratory and V.P.Sharma, joint secretary.
Matches were officiated by Taran Deep Singh, Amit Sharma and Manjit Singh.
Later, Deshbandhu presented vote of thanks.
