Tie-breaker wins by Jammu Sports, JK Bank Academy

JAMMU, Jan 7: Jammu Sports and JK Bank Academy registered convincing victories over their rivals via tie-breaker to advance in the ongoing 8th Christmas Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College Football ground, here today.
Earlier, in the first match, Jammu Sports got better of Akhnoor XI by five goals to four (5-4) in a close contest. Both the teams scored one goal each in the stipulated time. Sahil was the goal scorer for Jammu Sports through penalty kick in 42nd minute, while Sandeep pelted goal for Akhnoor XI in the 58th minute. In tie-breaker, Vivian, Bunty, Vinay and Sushil Michael scored goals for Jammu Sports, while Vijay, Arun and Sandeep netted goals for Akhnoor XI.
In another match, JK Bank Academy prevailed over Jammu United by seven goals to five (7-5) via tie-breaker. Earlier, in the stipulated time, both the teams scored 2 goals each. Arjun and Parveen Kumar pelted the goals for Academy in 8th and 10th minute to help their team lead by two goals to nil (2-0). However, Arun Nangyal’s double strike in 36th and 57th minute of the second half, helped Jammu United end the stipulated time with (2-2) draw. Then in the tie-breaker, JK Bank Academy succeeded in scoring 5 goals, while Jammu United netted 3 goals to make it (7-5) in favour of Bank Academy. Arun Nangyal’s brilliant display of soccer skills went in vain.
The matches were officiated by a penal of experts including Hilal Ahmed, Moon Stephen, Harmanjeet Singh, Rinku Gill, Elijah Sotra, and Yousuf Don, while the Tournament is being organized by All J&K Christian Welfare Association, under the overall supervision of Ex-MLC, SM Gill, David Masih, Feastus Sotra and Yousaf Don.
Young Rovers will take on NGR in the first match at 10 am tomorrow, while Jammu Sports will face JK SRTC at 11:30 am and Young Rovers will meet BSF at 1 pm at the same venue tomorrow.
Moreover, J&K Bank Academy, which has qualified for the last eight stage, will lock horns with JKP, which will play direct in the quarter-final match at 2 pm tomorrow.
