JAMMU, Mar 23: Sammelan, the premier technical-cum-cultural festival of the Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET), Kot-Bhalwal, commenced at its campus.
Minister for Higher Education, Mohammad Akbar Lone was the chief guest who inaugurated the festival. The function was presided over by Dr Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER Group of Institutions.
Dr Arun K Gupta presented the welcome address and apprised the Minister that MIET has received AICTE approval for starting M Tech Computer Science and BE Civil Engineering programmes.
Earlier Major General (retd), Prof SK Sharma, Principal, MIET said that Sammelan is an essential component of the MIET philosophy of developing well-rounded individuals and creating a platform for students to express themselves.
The Minister in his address assured all possible support to the institution in starting new market-relevant programmes.
Later, MA Lone along with MIET management released Sammelan souvenir.
Director, MIER Dr Renu Gupta expressed satisfaction that MIET students were developing into individuals with multi-dimensional personalities and not merely with academic skills.
The inaugural ceremony was kick-started by a rocking performance by the MIET music club which was greatly appreciated by the audience.
At the end, Dr Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET presented vote of thanks.
Later, more than 1500 students participated in varied technical, literary and management related events throughout the day.
