Teamwork helps J&K to thrash Assam by 79 runs

JAMMU, Oct 11: Teamwork helped Jammu and Kashmir to crush Assam by a big margin of 79 runs in the Elite Group-C Vijay Hazare Trophy at SSN College Ground, Chennai.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, J&K rode on brilliant opening partnership of 148 runs between Ahmed Omar Banday (79) and Shubham Khajuria (72) to score a good total of 272 runs in the stipulated 50 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Banday hit 10 fours and 2 sixes in his knock, while Shubham struck 6 fours and 3 sixes in his innings. Skipper Parvez Rasool (26), Irfan Pathan (25 n.o) and Shubham Singh Pundir (23) were the other contributors.
Arup Das, Mrinmoy Dutta, Amit Sinha and Romario Sharma shared 1 wicket each from Assam.
In reply, Assam bundled out for 193 runs in 48.2 overs. Skipper Amit Sinha top scored with 81 runs off 108 balls, studded with 8 fours and 2 sixes, while Abu Nechim Ahmad contributed 28 runs to the total. Irfan Pathan and Umar Nazir Mir took 3 wickets each from Jammu and Kashmir, while Waseem Raza bagged 2 wickets. Skipper Parvez Rasool and Amir Aziz shared 1 wicket each.
