JAMMU, Dec 3: Skipper Daud Iqbal Baba led from the front, scoring quick-fire 23 runs with 2 massive sixes and scalped 3 important wickets to help Jammu University (JU) thrash Rahauri University Maharashtra by 45 runs and enter quarterfinals of the ongoing All India Vice Chancellors Cup T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized in Mumbai.
Earlier, winning the toss and electing to bat first, Jammu University scored a decent total of 187 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 7 wickets in the process. Batting mainstay, Rajkumar top scored with 35 runs, while Rajesh and Niranjan contributed 33 and 27 runs to the total respectively. Skipper Daud Iqbal scored power-packed 23 runs, while Vishal and Noor chipped in with 21 runs each and Akash contributed 15 runs to the total.
Rathour bagged 3 wickets and Nilesh took 2 for Rahauri University by conceding 35 and 40 runs to the total respectively, while Anil and JP claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Rauhari University managed to score 142 runs in the allotted overs by losing 8 wickets, thus lost the match by 45 runs. JP was the top scorer with 49 runs, while Anil and Nilesh contributed 41 and 24 runs to the total respectively.
For Jammu University, Daud Iqbal took 3 wickets by conceding 35 runs in his 4 overs, while Pawan bagged 2 wickets by giving away 27 runs in his 4 overs. Rajesh and Abhinav claimed one wicket each. For his all-round show, Daud Iqbal was adjudged man of the match.
Director, Sports and Physical Education and Manager Sunil Sahi have lauded the efforts of the players for their splendid show.
It is pertinent to mention here that Jammu University is continuously displaying splendid performance in this prestigious Tournament from last four years.
