Sumit Grover emerges winner of Chess C’ship

JAMMU, Feb 12: Sumit Grover won the Open Chess Championship, organized by Jammu District Chess Association at Mahamaya Ropeway Restaurant, here today.
He got the first prize of Rs 3000. It is the first ever event organised at a newly started restaurant at Mahamaya Temple, a great scenic view of Jammu and also enjoyed a Gondola ride.
Players appreciated the initiative of the District Association to organize a Chess tournament at such a beautiful place. Veteran players SP Sharma and Manoj Kohli also participated in the event and encouraged the young players.
Atul Kumar Gupta got second position, while veteran player SP Sharma played very well and stood 3rd in the open group. Ravi Sharma remained 4th while Arvindu got 5th place.  Manoj Kohli won best veteran award, while Neha Sharma emerged winner of best woman award and Pazhany Kohli won best Under-12 award, besides Paras Sharma won best Under-8 award.
It was the record that120th event was organised by president All J&K Chess Association Atul Kumar Gupta. Col. Ravi Kumar and renowned businessman Parminder Kumar distributed cash prizes worth Rs10000 among the winners.
