State rich in sports talent: Priya Sethi

JAMMU, Apr 30: Three days 21st North Zone Handball Championship organized by J&K Handball Association at JAMMU in Collaboration with J&K State Sports Council concluded at Mini Stadium Parade Ground, here today.
Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Tourism, Culture, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks Priya Sethi Priya Sethi was the chief Guest and senior leader BJP Yudhvir Sethi was guest of honour at the valedictory function of the championship.
Punjab State won the men’s final and Haryana won the championship in women section. The winner and runners up trophies along with individual prizes were presented by the chief guest and the guest of honour.
While appreciating efforts of the Association, Priya Sethi said the state is rich in sports talent and sportsmen from the state have proven their mettle at different national and international championships. She said proper nurturing by the sports authorities goes a long way in promoting the talent at different levels.
She said the government at state and union level is promoting sports and all out efforts are being made to provide adequate sports infrastructure at school level also.
Calling upon younger generation to make sports part of life, Yudhvir said that physically fit body is prerequisite for an active mind and youth should be actively involved in sports for all round body fitness, adding that sports is also a very good career option as professional sportspersons are role models for society.
Earlier, General Secretary of the J&K Handball Association, Ashwani Kumar Raina welcomed the distinguished Guests and presented a brief note on the championship.
Among others, who were present on the occasion were President J&K Handball Association Dr. S.M Bali, Vice President Ranjit Singh, Treasurer Krishan Lal, Joint Secretary Rajinder Kumar and Press secretary Sandeep Kumar.
