SPMR College organises ‘Maasika Mahotsav’

JAMMU, May 27: Eco Club of Government SPMR College of Commerce organized a programme on “Maasika Mahotsav” in collaboration with Climate Front Jammu in the College premises, here today.
The programme was organized to sensitize the students and staff about the menstruation and the taboos associated with it.
Principal, faculty, along with more than 100 students of the College as well as volunteers from the Climate Front Jammu attended the programme wherein various events including Kho-Kho and Santolia, nukkad natak and poetry recitation were organized.
Through the play, the audience was aware of embarrassment attached to blood stains on cloth or asking for a cloth pad from a shopkeeper. It gave out a strong message that we as individuals must try to eradicate the taboos associated with periods.
Prof. Ranjeet Singh Jamwal, Principal of the College appreciated the efforts of the committee members for organizing such a programme. Prof Sandhya Bharadhwaj also expressed her views that we all should stop associating the word ‘impurity’ with the biological process of menstruation and the word ‘period’ should be considered as normal.
Anmol and Navjeev from Climate Front stressed on the need for creating awareness about menstruation so that it becomes a topic of discussion among people, so that a conversation starts among the youth which will help in eradicating the taboos and help change the lifestyle of women for the better.
The programme was coordinated and supervised by Prof Savita Jamwal, Dr Deepak Pathania, Prof Apfan Ali and Prof Rajni Bala.
Other, present on the occasion were Prof Barbara Kaul (HoD Commerce), Prof Archana Kaul (HoD English), Dr Jagmeet Kaur, Dr Roomi Rani, Prof Fayza, Dr Sarabjeet Kour Soodan, Prof Rishu and Prof Shipra Mahajan.
