SMVDU organises National level essay writing contest

JAMMU, Jan 23: The Central Library of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU), Katra, organized second National level essay writing contest for harnessing energy, creativity and inculcating quality writing skills among students.
The essay contest aimed at providing a platform for students with writing skills to express their creativity. The themes of the contest were varied including “Social Networking Sites: Advantages & Disadvantages”, “With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility”, “Jobs versus Startups Options and Opportunities” and “Harnessing the Demographic Divided through Investments in Youth” wherein 164 candidates participated from various reputed institutions and universities, including Central and State Universities; IITs; VIT, and foreign university such as South America University USA.
The evaluation committee of the competition consisting Dr Madhu M Chaturvedi and Dr RashiTaggar, faculty members of SMVDU, Dr Amitabh, Head of the School of Languages and Literature and Program Coordinator Dr Supran K Sharma, Faculty In-charge Central Library, SMVDU.
Purvi Chaturvedi and Yashvi Jain of Kamala Nehru College, University of Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala got first prize of Rs10000 while Swatika, Punjab University Chandigarh bagged Second prize of Rs 5000 and Nirmalya Panigrahi, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur clinched third prize of Rs 2000.
While Shilpa Kashyap of Panjab University, Unninarayanan Kurup of Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning, Andhra Pradesh and Saloni Seth, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University have bagged consolation prize of Rs1,000 each with a certificate of appreciation.
Prof RK Sinha, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, emphasized that such competitions encourages students for enhancing their ability on different fronts. He also congratulated the participants and winners.
