SKK launches Anita Raina Memorial Scholarship Award

JAMMU, May 2: The J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra (SKK) launched Anita Raina Memorial Scholarship at the School for Hearing Handicapped, here today. The scholarship, introduced in memory of Anita Raina, a teacher who passed away last year, aims to support economically disadvantaged deaf and dumb girls.
The scholarship is funded through the interest generated from Rs 2 lakh fixed deposit and five deserving students were selected by the school to receive Rs 3000 each. The recipients include Komal Sharma (8th class), Damni Sharma (9th class), Gurpreet Kaur (3rd class), Damini (11th class) and Kirti Angral (4th class).
These girls come from families facing financial struggles. The fathers of Komal and Damni have passed away, while Gurpreet, Damini and Kirti have fathers working as casual labourers and an auto driver.
The scholarship was distributed by Anjli Raina, daughter-in-law of the late Anita Raina, who is currently based in the USA. Also present at the ceremony were B K Raina (Advisor SKK), K B Jandial (President SKK), J K Vaid (General Secretary SKK) and Roshan Bhan (Principal). Among others present included V K Padha, B B Magotra & O P Sharma, teachers and students of the school.
