JAMMU, Mar 9: Defeating New Challengers Cricket Club by a narrow margin of 9 runs in an exciting summit clash, Simula Cricket Club lifted the title trophy of the KC Sports Club Cup Cricket Tournament 2016 at KC Public School ground, here today.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, Simula Cricket Club scored a fighting total of 129 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Puneet Kumar and Hardeep Singh scored 33 and 32 runs respectively. For New Challenders Club, Vishwajeet and Aman took 3 wickets each.
While chasing the target, New Challengers Cricket Club lost the wickets at regular intervals and the team managed to score 120 runs and lost the match by a narrow margin of 9 runs. Manjeet Singh top scored with 23 runs, while Sahil contributed 20 runs to the total. For Simula, Vikram was the most successful bowler, who took 3 important wickets, while Kulwinder and Gulzar claimed 2 wickets each.
Hardeep Singh of Simula Cricket Club was declared as the man of the match.
The match was officiated by Sadiq Hussain Malik, Tarsem and Rajinder Singh.
Dilbag Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Security), was the chief guest on the occasion, who distributed trophies, prizes and awards among the winners and runners-up teams.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Dilbag commended KC Sports Club for the pioneering work done in the promotion of sports among the youth of the State.
He also took a guided tour of KC Sports Club and was quite impressed with the world class indoor sporting facilities the Club has been providing to the fitness and sports enthusiasts of Jammu since 2014. He visited the Gym, indoor swimming pool, indoor Cricket hall and recently commissioned Squash courts.
Mr Dilbag further said that KC Sports Club is fully equipped to play a vital role in the promotion of sports in the State in collaboration with public sector agencies.
