JAMMU, Nov 25: To commemorate the 350th Shaheedi Divas of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur ji, the Sikh Progressive Front organized exhibition hockey matches in Jammu today. The first match featured the girls’ teams of Sahara Hockey Club and Khelo India. The fast-paced match saw Sahara Club score in the 2nd minute, quickly equalized by Khelo India in the 4th minute and remained tied 1–1 despite several attempts by both teams.
The second match, in the boys’ category, was played between Jammu East Hockey Club and Jammu South Hockey Club. Jammu East took the lead in the 15th minute, but Jammu South equalized in the second quarter. In the second half, Jammu South dominated and secured a 6–3 victory.
The event was graced by Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jammu-Samba Range), as the chief guest. He praised the Sikh Progressive Front’s efforts and encouraged parents to support children’s participation in outdoor sports.
Other notable guests included hockey veterans like Iqbal Singh, Harpreet Singh Bhapi and Manjit Singh Reen. Tejpal Singh and Jasjot Singh were awarded for their outstanding performances.
Balvinder Singh, President of the Sikh Progressive Front, assured that such events will be organized regularly to promote youth participation in sports and discourage the use of drugs and excessive screen time.
