CHANDIGARH, Apr 29: State Football Academy (SFA) under-18 boys made a glowing comeback by registering their first win against United Punjab in the U-18 I-League today at Minerva Training Ground, Chandigarh.
After tasting back to back loses in U-18 I-League SFA came up with a cohesive unit and outplayed United Punjab by 1-0.
Starting the match on a dominant foot, SFA created early chances when Tauseef pelted the ball towards opponent’s goalpost but the goalkeeper halted his attempt to score.
The boys created several chances but could not capitalize and in the meantime the referee drew the first half to a halt.
In the second half, SFA continued on the forefront with the attacking line keeping the opponent defenders on toes to break the deadlock. In the 58th minute of the game, Tauseef with one-on-one move finished with an emphatic strike which finds the back of the net, leading the score sheet with 1-0.
Meanwhile, United Punjab sweated a lot to score an equalizer but the defensive backline of SFA acted as a wall besides marvelous saves of SFA goalkeeper, Kamran that thwarted opponent’s chances to score any goal.
Moreover, SFA boys enjoyed possession on the ball throughout the game and created numerous chances but couldn’t double the advantage.
In the meantime, referee blew the final whistle of the play and SFA registered their first ever win in the U-18 I-League.
The SFA-ians are placed in the Rest of India Zone Group B and are playing under the coaching of International footballer, Mehraj-Ud-Din Wadoo.
