Sarabjeet, Faizan selected for Asia Cup Softball C’ship

JAMMU, May 26: In a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, two promising Softball players Sarabjeet Singh Sodhi from Jammu and Faizan Bashir from Kulgam have been selected to represent India in the U-23 Men’s Asia Cup Softball Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from June 2 to 7, 2025.
The championship is not only a continental showdown but also a qualifying event for the U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup 2026. The Indian team must secure a top-two finish in Asia to qualify for the global tournament.
The duo earned their spots after impressing selectors during trials held at Jalgaon, Maharashtra on January 18-19. Both athletes participated in two national coaching camps-first in Maharashtra and currently ongoing at Vikas Puri Stadium, New Delhi.
Waseem Raja Khan, General Secretary of the J&K Softball Association, extended heartiest congratulations to Sarabjeet and Faizan, calling it a landmark achievement. He announced that a felicitation ceremony would be held to honour these and other international players upon their return.
Khan also lauded Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, for her consistent efforts in promoting and supporting Softball in the Union Territory. He urged young athletes in J&K to pursue Softball, a globally growing sport, as a serious career path.
