Sachin, Lara are equals: Steve Waugh

Bangalore, Aug 1:
Former Australian Captain Steve Waugh today said batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar and West Indian great Brian Lara should be considered equals as both excelled in different conditions, mostly.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function here,  he said comparison between two greats is always bad but there  was little to separate the two great batsmen. They played under different conditions and pressure situations.
He said both the players remained the most accomplished and will remain so for a long time to come. ”Maybe Sachin had to fathom more pressure as a billion people (in India) always wanted him to perform. But Lara too was too good as he was the stand out player in a rather weak team at that time,” he explained.
Waugh’s comments comes in the wake of another Australian great Ricky Ponting rating Lara ahead of Sachin.
Saying that every player has to retire some time or later, Waugh said Sachin too would hang his boots and the time was not far away. (UNI)
