JAMMU, Sept 25: Royals Hockey Club Senior and KK Hockey Club Senior outplayed rivals in their respective matches and entered into the next stage of the ongoing 1st Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Open Hockey Tournament for women, being played at KK Hakku Hockey stadium, here.
In the first match today, KK Hockey Club Junior lost to Royals Hockey Club Senior by six goals to zero. First goal was scored in 3rd minute of game by Kiran of Royals Senior, 2nd goal was scored by Anjali in 8th minute, 3rd goal was scored by Lovely in the 14th minute, Geeta scored 1 goal in 18th minute whereas Ritu and Sunekha scored 1 goal each in 22nd minute of the game.
In second match, KK Hockey Club Senior defeated Royals Hockey Club Junior by margin of 9-0 goals. In this one sided match, Payal scored 2 goals, Amanpreet scored 3 goals, Chitra netted 3 goals and Gunjan scored 1 goal.
Rajinder Singh Kuku Senior Vice President Hockey J&K, Dharampal Singh Veteran Hockey player, Dr Taran Singh General Secretary Hockey J&K, GS Bakshi Former General Secretary Hockey J&K and Angat Singh were prominent persons present among others.
The umpires in the first match were NIS Coach Gurmeet Kour and Anjali Thakur NIS Coach whereas Kuldip Kour and Payal performed duties of the technical officer. For the second match, the umpires were Gurmeet Kour NIS Coach and Anjali Thakur NIS Coach, while the technical officer was Kuldip Kour.
In tomorrow fixture, KK Hockey Club Senior will take on Sham Lal Sharma Hockey Club Poonch and Royal Hockey Club Senior will clash with APS Akhnoor.
It is pertinent to mention here that this is the first hockey tournament for women being organized in J&K by Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation under the aegis of Hockey J&K. This will boost the popularity of hockey among the women in J&K.
A total of 12 teams from Jammu, Poonch, Kathua, Udhampur and Akhnoor are participating in the tournament.
The final match will be played on 28th September–the birthday of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh.
