*Young Kawalpreet guides Stadium XI Kathua to title win

KATHUA, July 19: District Development Commissioner (DDC) Kathua, Rohit Khajuria advocated for exploring sports talent at the grass-root level, rather at the bud, while addressing a large gathering of sportspersons as chief guest during a closing ceremony of District Kathua JKCA Premier Champio-nship at Sports Stadium, here today.
While lavishing praise on the organisers, Mr Khajuria said that they (organisers) have done a tremendous job by holding the event which provided opportunity to good number of cricketers, especially young players, to polish their skill and hone their talent.
He assured the players that a well established turf wicket for practicing and net sessions, outside the boundary rope, will be developed at an earliest at this venue.
On the occasion, the DDC telephonically directed the Manager of the Stadium, employee of J&K State Sports Council to take immediate steps with regard to infrastructure development at the venue with the funds already announced/released by the then Chief Minister of the State.
Mr Khajuria was accompanied by Member, Committee of Members JKCA and retired Judge, Jang Bahadur Singh Jamwal, under whose supervision the Championships are being organised.
Former Ranji Trophy Player and CPO Rajesh Gill; Chairman Media Committee JKCA Rajesh Dhar; ASP Nasir Khan and Puneet Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Commercial Check Post Lakhanpur were the guests of honour.
The chief guest and the guests of honour distributed trophies and other prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Prominent among others present on the occasion were the members of the JKCA District Kathua Tournamen Organising Committee including Gurpinder Singh (Coordinator), Rajinder Salathia, Rakesh Sumbria, Harish Andotra and Sandeep Sharma.
Earlier, in the final match, Stadium XI Kathua defeated Youngster XI Kathua by 25 runs in a well fought contest.
Winning the toss and batting first, Stadium XI scored a decent total of 170 runs in 28.5 overs. Young Kawalpreet Singh top scored with 43 runs, while Arvind and Gourav contributed 40 and 36 runs to the total respectively. Shittal, Himanshu, Aslam and Sanchit shared 2 wickets each for Youngster XI.
In reply, Youngster XI managed to score 145 runs in 26.4 overs, thus lostthe match by 25 runs. Vijay top scored with 34 runs, while Shittal and Aslam contributed 26 and 21 runs to the total respectively. Kawalpreet and Arvind claimed 3 wickets each. Kawalpreet of Stadium XI was adjudged as the man of the match, while Nihal Khajuria and Sanchit were adjudged as the best batsman and best bowler of the Championship respectively.
