SRINAGAR, Oct 12: Twenty nine teams from across India participated in the Mega Football Championship of 61st National School Games held at Bakshi Stadium, here.
The tournament which was organized for U-19 age group boys by Department of Youth Services and Sports, J&K under the aegis of School Games Federation of India concluded today with the grand finale played at Bakshi Stadium here.
In the final match of the Football National, State Team of Punjab defeated Maharastra by 1-0, Rajasthan got third place after giving a tuff defeat to NVS by 3-0.
On the valedictory function, Director General of YS&S Jahangir Mir was chief guest on the occasion, who presented the coveted trophy to the winning team in presence of Director Radio Kashmir Himayun Qaisar, Joint Director YS&S Madan Lal, Deputy Director (Central) YS&S Haji Mirza Hussain, DYSSO Srinagar Balbir Singh and senior functionaries of SGFI.
While speaking, Mir said that his Department is committed to boost sports talent of the State and no stone will be left unturned to encourage and guide all those students who have interest in games and sports. He informed that the department would organize some mega events in Winter and Water Sports soon.
“Our department is working hard to bring the State on National Sports calendar,” he said, adding that the department is already following the devised calendar of sports activities at zonal and district and State level.
DG hoped that his department would get the support from the School Games Federation of India in future as for the promotion of varied sports.
The matches of the School National were played on the six famous play fields of Srinagar–Bakshi Stadium, Polo Ground, TRC Synthetic Turf, SP College Ground, Kashmir University Ground and Gindun Play Field Rajbagh.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed  in presence of Union Minster for Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal and Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K Imran Raza Ansari.
