*Pooja, Akhtar Ali win singles titles

JAMMU, Sept 7: Pooja of Corporate Centre and Mohd Akhtar Ali of Eastern Region-II (ER-II) emerged victorious in the Women’s and Men’s Singles categories respectively, at the POWERGRID Inter-Regional Carrom Tournament 2025, which concluded today at Amritsar. The three-day event was held from September 5 to 7.
In the Women’s Singles final, Pooja defeated her colleague Shweta Gupta, both representing Corporate Centre, in a competitive match. Devi Priyanka Singh of Northern Region-III (NR-III) secured third place in the category, showcasing consistent performance throughout the tournament.
In the Men’s Singles, Mohd. Akhtar Ali of ER-II claimed the title after beating Jagdish Kalita of North Eastern Region (NER) in the final. Kapil Kalambe of Western Region-I (WR-I) clinched the third position by defeating Rakesh Boro of NER in the playoff match.
In the Men’s Doubles event, the duo of Jagdish and Babul Das from NER captured the championship by defeating V.K. Biswas and Ravi Sakhya of Western Region-II (WR-II). Deepak Kumar and Uday Narayan of NR-III secured the third position.
Earlier, the Team Championships concluded with Corporate Centre winning the Women’s Team Title, while Eastern Region-II emerged as the Men’s Team Champion.
The closing ceremony was presided over by Tarun Bajaj, Executive Director, POWERGRID Northern Region-II. Also present were Jagat Ram (GM, Punjab), Ashutosh K. Sharma (Sr. DGM HR), senior officials of POWERGRID, and members of the Carrom Association, Chandigarh.
In his address, Tarun Bajaj congratulated the winners and praised all participants for their sportsmanship and dedication. He emphasized the importance of sports in daily life and appreciated POWERGRID’s commitment to employee wellness through sporting events.
