JAMMU, Apr 22: In the shortest version of the game of cricket (T20 format), the players need to focus more on physical fitness and motor ability to be successful as there is not much time to relax in such a format. Apart from possessing skill and talent, the players should have sharp reflexes, anticipation and a pair of safe hands in business to succeed in T20 cricket.
This was revealed by Dr Tej Kaul, former Team India Trainer and former chief coach Punjab Cricket Association (PCA), while distributing prizes among the players during valedictory function of PPCPL at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here today.
He said that J&K has a lot of cricketing talent, which needs to be honed and polished properly. Dr Kaul, the chief guest on the occasion was accompanied by Ashinder Koul, Chairman of JKCA senior selection committee, who was the guest of honour.
Meanwhile, Banihal Knight Riders and Jammu Khalsa Kings XI registered wins over their rivals in the ongoing Police Public Cricket Premier League (PPCPL), being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police under the overall supervision of DGP, the Chairman of the organizing committee.
Earlier, in the first match, Banihal Knight Riders defeated Ishar Daredevils by 5 wickets in a close contest. Batting first, Ishar Daredevils bundled out for a paltry total of 95 runs in 19.5 overs. Jasvinder Singh and Amritpal Singh contributed 29 and 16 runs to the total respectively. For Banihal Knight Riders, Umar Alam took 3 wickets and Riyaz Ahmad bagged 2. Umar Ashraf and Imtiaz shared a wicket apiece.
In reply, Banihal Knight Riders chased the target on the last ball in a thrilling finish, losing 5 wickets in the process. Imtiaz top scored with 30 runs, while Samiullah chipped in with 20 runs. Pavit and Manjeet took one each. Imtiaz Jan was adjudged man of the match.
In another match, Khalsa Kings XI trounced Kashmir Steel Warriors in an easy contest. Batting first, Kashmir Steel Warriors scored a modest total of 119 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Wasim Raza top scored with 35 runs, while Pranav Gupta contributed 21 runs to the total. Manik Gupta took 3 wickets, while Ramdayal bagged 2 and Inderjeet one for Khalsa Kings XI. In reply, Jammu Khalsa Kings XI chased the target in 17.3 overs by losing 4 wickets. Parveen Singh was the top scorer with 35 runs, while Inderjeet Singh contributed valuable 31 runs to the total. Manik Gupta also chipped in with 20 runs. Pranav and Nazir took one wicket each. Manik Gupta was adjudged man of the match.
