NSS Foundation Day celebrated with enthusiasm

JAMMU, Sept 24: Various education institutions today celebrated National Service Scheme (NSS) Foundation Day with enthusiasm and zeal.
The NSS Wing, University of Kashmir (KU) organized a special lecture on the topic “NSS: Its origin and relevance in Higher Education” for NSS volunteers of various universities and colleges of Kashmir division.
Professor Akash Gulalia, former Dean Social Sciences, BPS Women University and OSD at Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan delivered the special lecture.
Prof Akash discussed at length about the origin and relevance of NSS in the higher education sector of our country. He emphasized on the fact that higher education institutions need to give special attention to NSS so that more and more students are encouraged to be part of this movement.
He also talked about the importance of voluntary services to address the issues faced by the society in the contemporary times.
While discussing the priority areas of intervention and the role of youth, the speaker highlighted the importance of student led movements like NSS to address the challenges faced by our country.
During the course of lecture the speaker shared some of his experiences with the NSS volunteers. The lecture was followed by a question answer session.
The organizing team was led by Dr Musavir Ahmad, Coordinator NSS University of Kashmir and included Programme officers namely Dr Wakar Amin, Dr Yasir Hameed, Dr Hina Basharat and Dr Shazia Malik. The lecture was moderated by Dr Wakar Amin and Dr Yasir Hameed presented the vote of thanks.
NSS Unit of Government College of Education, Jammu in collaboration with Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar under the patronage of Cluster University of Jammu organized an online celebration of National Service Scheme (NSS) Day on Google Meet platform.
The program was organized to acknowledge the outstanding work that NSS has been doing by contributing real support and social assistance to communities in rural as well as underprivileged areas since its inception on this day in the year 1969.
The program was ably conducted by NSS Program Officers Prof Mala Bhasin of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Dr Shubhra Jamwal of GCoE along with the NSS volunteers of the two colleges.
Prof (Dr) Kulvinder Kour, (Principal GCoE) applauded the efforts of the NSS unit and emphasized on the vital role it plays in inculcating positive ideals and norms in the youth towards the society and channeling their inner potential for the greater good of the society.
Prof (Dr) Sangita Nagari, (Principal GCW) also highlighted the importance of NSS in terms of the services that it provides for the betterment of mankind especially the youth who frame the mirror of future.
Dr Shaikh Kalimoddin Rashid, Assistant Professor of English in Maulana Azad College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Aurangabad (Maharashtra), and Abhimanyu Dev Singh Billawaria, Director, Communication County, Jammu also participated.
The program was convened by Prof Shapia Shameem, Prof Seema and team of dedicated NSS Volunteers Ravinder Kumar, Priya Chivalry Singh, Amishaa, Priya, Shallu Sharma and Meenakshi Manhas.
NSS Unit of Government Degree College Kathua celebrated the day by spreading information about guidelines and SOPs of the Ayush Department for controlling the pandemic in their localities and pasted posters regarding home quarantine. They also conducted door to door campaign and appealed the locals to maintain social distancing and avoid useless visits in the crowded markets.
The entire activities were conducted under the supervision of College Principal, Prof Assa Ram Sharma and NSS Programme Officers, Prof Manmohan Singh, Prof Ritu Kumar Sharma and Prof Neha Bandral.
NSS Unit of Government Degree College Akhnoor celebrated the foundation day by making one minute video on ‘Swachhata Abhiyaan’, slogan writing on water conservation and clicking pictures depicting saplings that they had planted to commemorate the day.
More than 100 volunteers participated in this event. The event was organised under the supervision of College Principal, Dr Namarta. The event was conducted by Dr Suresh Sharma, NSS Programme Officer ensured. e-certificates were awarded to all the participants
NSS Units GDC Udhampur marked the NSS Foundation Day by organising online event on the topic importance of NSS Day, social work, youth orientation and Shram-Daan under the leadership of College Principal, Prof Subash Chander. NSS Programme Officers Prof Samoosh Kumar and Dr Rippy Bawa interacted with volunteers during the online programme.
The volunteers also participated in the sessions, organised by the Directorate of NSS, University of Jammu on the topic ‘Niswarth Rashtra Seva ke Paanch Dashak’ The event was coordinated by Dr Rippy Bawa while Prof Samoosh Kumar presented vote of thanks.
NSS Unit of GGM Science College Jammu celebrated the foundation day by organising online awareness programme on topic ‘Swachhata’.
A large numbers of students participated in the event wherein volunteers delivered awareness speeches and took e-pledge for making their localities neat and clean. The program was organised under the supervision of College Principal, Ravender Tickoo while the event was coordinated by NSS Programme Officer, Deepali Mahajan.
