JAMMU, May 29: North Zone Cricket Club registered a comprehensive 89-run victory over Bangalore Cricket Club in the opening match of the Rotasia Championship League T20 Cricket Tournament being held in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Batting first, North Zone posted a strong total of 201 for 5 in 20 overs. Captain Sonu Malhotra played a quickfire knock of 35 runs off 15 balls, while Rahul contributed 35 runs off just 13 balls, giving the team a solid start and momentum.
In reply, Bangalore Cricket Club could manage only 112 runs, with Marunga top-scoring with 29 runs. For North Zone, A Rahul was the standout bowler, claiming three wickets, while skipper Sonu Malhotra also contributed with two crucial wickets to restrict the opposition.
Captain Sonu Malhotra, a resident of Akhnoor, was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his exceptional all-round performance with both bat and ball.
Around 12 teams from India and Sri Lanka are participating in the tournament, which is being organized in Colombo. The winning team will be awarded by the Rotary Club at the conclusion of the championship.
