JAMMU, Nov 18: The National Softball Players Forum held a press conference here today, led by Chairman Pardeep Kumar, alleging illegalities by the J&K Sports Council and a self-styled J&K Softball Association. Kumar stated that the association, suspended by the Sports Council in 2017 and derecognised by the Softball Association of India in 2023, continued to conduct tournaments and receive financial aid in violation of rules.
Advocate Vikram Singh highlighted a “nexus” between certain officials of the Sports Council and the self-styled association, claiming that public funds were misused. Funds allegedly given to players were reportedly reclaimed by association officials and players who resisted were denied opportunities in district, State and National events.
The Forum urged the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, J&K Administration and the Lieutenant Governor to order an independent investigation into this matter. Present at the press conference were Pankaj Jaral, Sunita Jamwal, Ashima Pathania, Shivam Singh, Mahul Singh, Vikram Chib, Ajay Kumar, Rohit Sharma, Arun Gandotra, Paras Mahajan and Ghar Choudhary.
However, when Excelsior tried to contact Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gull, did not pick calls while DSO Jammu, Iqbal Singh, expressed ignorance about the matter and advised contacting the Centre Officer of JKSC for details.
