JAMMU, May 22: In a monumental achievement for Jammu & Kashmir and nation, Colonel Ranveer Singh Jamwal, India’s most accomplished mountaineer from the Union Territory, successfully led an expedition to the summit of Mt. Kangchenjunga (8,586 m). This ascent marked the culmination of the unprecedented ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ mission, a historic initiative to hoist the Indian national flag on the highest peak of each of India’s 28 states.
This expedition was not just another mountaineering feat. It represented the grand finale of a mission that saw the Indian flag raised on the highest peaks of every state in the country, with Kangchenjunga being the final summit. Under Col Jamwal’s leadership, the NIMAS (National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports) team became the only Indian expedition to achieve 100% summit success on Kangchenjunga this season, with all five team members reaching the top.
Col Jamwal’s achievements are legendary. He is the only Indian to have summited the Seven Summits, which includes the highest mountains of all seven continents, along with the highest peak of each of India’s 28 states. His accolades include the prestigious Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award, the MacGregor Medal, the State Award and the IMF Gold Medal.
Speaking about the achievement, Col Jamwal said, “Jammu gave me the strength, the love for the outdoors, and the character to face hardships. This success on Kangchenjunga belongs as much to J&K as it does to India.”
