JAMMU, Feb 24: In a bid to raise awareness about cervical cancer, the Smt. Shanti Gupta Centre for Women’s Studies (SSGCWS) at MIER College of Education organized an insightful awareness lecture aimed at educating and sensitizing faculty members from MIER College and Model Academy School, along with students from the School of Education.
The resource persons for the event were Dr. Reetika Menia and Dr. Shivani Gandhi, both Assistant Professors in the Department of Pathology at AIIMS, Vijaypur, Jammu. The event commenced with a warm welcome note from Jyoti Sharma, a member of SSGCWS, who introduced the distinguished speakers to the attendees. Dr. Menia, an MBBS and DNB holder in Pathology, has significant experience as a Senior Resident at ESIC Medical College, Faridabad, while Dr. Gandhi, holding an MBBS and MD in Pathology, brings over six years of research and experience in her field with numerous national and international publications.
During their presentations, the doctors elaborated on the causes, symptoms, risk factors, early detection and treatment options for cervical cancer, emphasizing the role of HPV infection as a key cause. They also highlighted the importance of routine Pap smear tests and HPV vaccination as vital preventive measures.
The session concluded with an interactive open-house discussion and a general awareness questionnaire for attendees. Rupa Gupta, Director of the Centre, presented mementos to the resource persons in appreciation of their contributions.
