DG Sports honours players as 65th NSG Kho-Kho C’ship concludes

JAMMU, Feb 9: Thrashing Kerala by 1 innings and 5 points in the summit clash, formidable Maharashtra lifted the title trophy of the 65th National School Games Under-19 Boys Kho-Kho Championship, which concluded at Khel Gaon, Nagrota, here today.
The Championship was organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports J&K, under the auspices of School Games Federation of India (SGFI).
In the final, the players of Maharashtra displayed extraordinary skills and showed serenity and promise to outplay the rivals in a one-sided affair. Rohan Kore was the star performer for Maharashtra who scored 6 points by playing for 2.30 minutes. The performance fetched him the man of the match award.
Earlier, in the hardliner (match for the 3rd place), Haryana got the better of Tamil Nadu in a close contest by 4 points.
Dilip Kahndavi of Maharashtra was adjudged as the man of the tournament for his outstanding performances.
Apart from the first four places, which went to Maharashtra, Kerala, Haryana and Tamil Nadu, the other four places up to the 8th spot were bagged by Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka respectively.
The coaches and managers of the visiting contingents were all praise for the organisers especially the Director General for holding the event in a befitting manner.
They lavished praise on the technical panel of the Championship headed by Jaffar Haider, DYSSO Kishtwar, for preserving spirit and sanctity of the game.
The Director General Youth Services and Sports was the chief guest on the concluding ceremony, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams.
Joint Director Youth Services and Sports, Jammu, Madan Lal and his counterpart from Kashmir, Bashir Ahmed were the guests of honour. Balbir Singh, Assistant Director (Central) and District Youth Services and Sports Officers of various districts of the Union Territory were present on the occasion.
Joint Director Jammu presented vote of thanks and highlighted the achievements of the Department.
He gave credit of establishing Khel Gaon as a sporting hub to the Director General Youth Services and Sports.
